Apple vs. Microsoft

One of the biggest changes that occurred during my transition with my new job is that I changed from working with a PC to a Mac. It’s basically the same, just the interface and operating systems are different. But if you’re computer savvy, it doesn’t take long to get use to working with a different OS.
I love my Mac. It works fabulous for what I use it for. It works fast and the color and graphics are fabulous! In fact, I can’t believe I went this long not working with a Mac. So if you’re Mac Luver like me, you’ve heard of the new OS that came out last week, leopard. If you haven’t seen or heard of Leopard, here’s a guided tour.
I haven’t upgraded because I’m a bit hesitant that it will mess with my Photoshop and Illustrator. I upgraded months ago to a higher version of my current OSX and it just threw it completely off. I had to go to the Apple store and have a genius reinstall the older version. Right now is my busy season and I just can’t afford to have my computer not working properly.
So if anyone out there has Photoshop CS3 and Illustrator CS3 and has upgraded to Leopard, let me know how it’s working for you!!
A couple of months ago I watched Pirates of Silicon Valley which a movie that tells you the history of Apple and Microsoft. It’s pretty interesting. I just gotta say, Bill Gates is a freakin’ genius! Sometimes it just baffles me the intellect some people have. Thank god though! I love computers!!!
If you’re interested to know more about Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, this is a great movie to watch.

That movie indeed kicketh much ass. Is it actually on DVD now?
I’m not upgrading to Leopard right now for exactly the same reasons. Let me know if you hear of anyone who’s done it successfully!

I regret buying my mac…seriously. I don’t use it much for pictures or videos, and aside from that, the greatness of it diminishes fast. Add in the incompatibility issues and its price and I should have went with another IBM or Dell.

OMG! I thought I was the only one who had seen that movie. That movie was based on a real life documentary called Triumph of the Nerds which shows you real life footage of how it all got started.
I cannot tell you how much I wish Mac’s would be the only operating system out there. Windows is simply bad in all senses. I have to deal with over 100 people each day and the ratio of Mac issues to PC’s issues is not an issue, yet we have the same amount of Mac’s as we do PC’s.
I’ve upgraded to Leopard already and have had no complications as of yet. After install you must run the software updates because some apps will need the updates in order to work correctly.
If you do a clean install, everything should work just fine.

I don’t understand HP’s comment. I’m not really surprised that he wasn’t able to figure out the Mac. Maybe I’ll give him a Mac (daddy) tutorial pretty soon.
I’ll be installing Leopard soon and will let you know how it goes with Adobe.

Bo – I don’t know if it’s on DVD. I saw it on http://www.ssupload.com. LOL I love that website! Thanks for the link btw.
HP – Mandamela. It needs a good home. Some cad-love! LOL So when you tire of it, ya sabes!
Jeff – I have to look for that documentary!! I didn’t know about that! I’m still going to hold off on leopard until it’s not busy season anymore at work!
Joel DCNats – YAY!! I’d totally get the nano. I got that for my brother, it’s kick ass. OR go for the Ipod Touch. *drool*

One other incompatibly issue I’ve read about … since Flash isn’t updated yet there are a lot of websites that don’t quite work right. Zooomr’s uploader doesn’t work for Leopard users yet … not sure about Flickr’s. The Zooomr thing will prevent me from upgrading. As will the fact that I use Flash CS3 for work. Too bad, too. Leopard’s supposed to be a ton faster on the Intel Macs.
Regarding HP’s woes, maybe you should have gotten a PC if you could keep using XP. But Vista really sucks and if you had to upgrade to that you’d probably be complaining about how you wished you’d gotten a Mac. The grass is always greener, right?

Oso,
I understand most of the shortcuts and ‘benefits’ of a mac, I’m surrounded by mac users, so it’s not that. It just really boils down to the (in)compatibility issues being more of a negative than any positives the mac has to offer (again, with the understanding that I don’t use the pictures and video parts of the computer much). It becomes annoying after a while. And when you factor in the mac price premium, it becomes a bad choice, IMHO.
Bo,
True, maybe that’s why. I use XP and have not yet started using Vista. My previous laptop was an XP IBM laptop, and maybe its just that overall configuration that I miss most.

HP - just give it to me and stop complaining. LOL
