If you are thinking about making plans for Spring Break or a summer vacation, Mexico might be a good destination.
A low-cost Mexican airline is starting service out of Austin flying non-stop to Cancún, Guadalajara, León, Monterrey, Puebla and Queretaro.
Mexico’s VivaAerobus is a no frills airline and will have a new terminal with no jet bridges, baggage handling, gates, or ticket counters.
Tickets are set to go on sale in a few weeks starting at just $9.99. Flights are scheduled to start in March. (article here)
So living in Dallas, this really caught my attention. I have family all over Mexico and you can’t beat 10 bucks.
But the whole “No jet bridges, baggage handling, gates, or ticket counters” makes me wonder!! I mean seriously? WTH? It’s like the ghetto of all airlines. I can’t even get on a big ass pick up truck I’m so short, I’d need a step-up from someone to get me on that plane! LOL
“A little help here someone!”
It’s probably like those “afforable” vans that drive to Mexico. It seats 12, but they fit 20. Thirty minutes into the trip you realize you’re one of the few people that is “SURE” on the van, it’s the middle of August, there’s a heatwave in Texas and the AC is just not working. Luckily, the guy with the man made wooden cage holding the rooster sat next you.
DAMN IT! :p

wow, the new MBP...i bet that's what God uses up in heaven...

It think where they get you is in the fees and taxes. The one-way fare from Cd. Juarez to Monterrey is MX$199. Plus MX$249 fees and taxes. It’s still a really really good deal. I’ve driven MTY to Juarez and it’s a long haul. Thanks for the heads up - I’ll be anxiously waiting for them to start service!

I was going to say it reminded me of an airline Beetle and I flew while we were overseas (ryanair) and then I saw on the “about” page of their website that they’re pretty much run by the same guy. Weird!
Beetle and I flew from Jerez to London for something like twenty bucks… and then I think we used that same airline to fly from London to Rome for maybe forty bucks.
It was like a Southwest flight where you pick your own seats… except you have to walk out onto the tarmac and climb stairs to get on the plane… which wasn’t all that odd… I had to do the same thing for a British Airways flight from Gibraltar to Houston and I think I paid $800 for that flight.
Anyway, so yeah, it wasn’t terrible. Not exactly first class but for ten bucks it’d be worth it.

of all the things to try and cut corners and save a few bucks on, air travel is not one of them… I’m more or less terrified of flying in general, even on the good airlines, so a $9.99 flight sounds a little too Buddy Holly for my taste.

Joel bwahahaha, omg, you made me spit out my coffee. I wonder how many hits i’ll get on my blog for Buddy Holly?

OMG are you serious, lol there wont even be seats inside that plane for 9.99, no baggage handling because you will sit on your suitcase. Let me know if you brave it and take that 10 buck flight.

Maybe it’s the kind of airline that charges you for all the extra frills like water or some juice.
