I was creating a new playlist that I can listen to on my handy-dandy little shuffle so it’ll motivate me to stay on what i like to call the hell-master at the gym.
As I go through my iTunes, I’m adding, deleting, re-adding…soon and hour has passed and I realize I can probably spend another hour just adjusting what I want and don’t want on my shuffle. I could do the sane thing and just take my iPod, but who am i kidding, I hate carrying stuff with me at the gym period! It’s not necessarily a bad thing, I just like way too much music!
I simply adore music. I remember I was leaving to work one morning and the neighbor was outside and I rolled down the window to wave and that afternoon I drove up to the driveway and there he was again. He walked over to me and asked how I was doing, you know, the regular chit-chat and he said, “So let me get this straight, you drive off this morning listening to Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground and you drive home and you’re listening too…who’s that again?”
“Uh…Meryl Haggard’s Silver Wings.” =\
He just laughed and commented on my “crazy” taste in music.
What can I say? You can’t appreciate Silver Wings unless you listen to it by Meryl Haggard…yanno?
My taste is all over the place. My ama says my music collection is like chinese rice, it just has everything in it! haha
Music is a very important part of me. It’s like my sense of smell. Music can take me back to certain moments from my past. I can walk into a store and be completely into the shopping that I’m doing and a song will just pop up on the loud speaker and it’ll take me to that moment where I’ve associated this song too.
So I thought that maybe I’d write an entry here and there and throw out a couple of songs to just pass my musical joy! Something that I’m into at the moment. My taste changes constantly but it’s very rare I STOP liking a song I’ve liked in the past. That’s why my playlist is always growing.
Vanessa (my sis) and I are huge Big Love fans and there was this episode recently where Margene is going through a difficult time in her life since her mom has passed. So in this scene (youtube.com link here), it’s late at night and she has on her nighty and is dancing to Take Your Mama Out by Scissor Sisters. We both instantly fell in love with this “Maniac” moment Margene was having on Big Love and fell in love with the song! It’s a really good work out song and you should definitely add it to your mp3 player and crank that sucker up when you’re on that Hell Master!

John Martyn was a British singer and songwriter who recently passed away in January. I was behind on the news and for some reason somebody mentioned it and it brought me to tears. I wouldn’t consider myself his number one fan, but his music always touched me and it would get under my skin. I’m not sure if that makes sense. It’s like, have you ever heard someone sing with so much intensity and emotion that you get goosebumps? That’s what his music did for me. I remember seeing him once on TV singing “May you Never” and just seeing tears roll down his face. This song, he wrote it for his stepson and it’s just amazing When you do something with love, it’s so much more intense and has a lot more meaning. You can tell he loved him very much. So in honor of John Martyn who lived a very emotional life and who I hope has reached a place that fills him with peace, I’m posting this song that I hope you’ll enjoy.
